95% of this page is not about me
In every website project I’ve worked on, the client was not happy with their existing site. It seems like many (most?) small business owners are not happy with their website.
I decided to look into this. My theory is that the dissatisfaction is a result of a lack of thinking. In particular, the website owner hadn’t:
→ Clearly defined their offer
→ Identified their target market
→ Effectively packaged their services
→ Clearly defined the visitor’s next step
I watched a lot of YouTube, read a lot of articles and books. I immersed myself in Donald Miller’s “Building a StoryBrand” (I highly recommend this book if you offer a service or a product). I worked through in-depth web design courses that focused on building effective sales lead pages.
I learned that you can think of business as the Hero’s Journey, but with a twist: You are not the hero, your potential client is the hero. Your (and my) role in this journey is to help the hero achieve their objectives. This means, in order for our businesses to do better, our marketing communications should be about the needs of the client, not our needs.
It’s why this About page isn’t about me: It is focused on the problem of ‘why small business owners are unhappy with their websites’.
If your website doesn’t frame your potential client as the hero and you as the helper, it will struggle to do well. It will always feel a bit ‘off’.
So…
I packed-up my learnings and created The Small Business Website Blueprint.
The Small Business Website Blueprint is a comprehensive website building approach that integrates expert consultancy, persuasive web copy and a high-converting homepage in the form of a sales landing page.
These elements are the basis of every successful website.
I’ve implemented The Small Business Website Blueprint in recent projects and they have been incredibly successful. Clients tell me how helpful the consultancy part is for them, even if it took a bit of work on their part.
The biggest win for clients is clarity. One client told me that her website web copy “truly spoke her truth”.
This is a classic example of me in the role of helper, helping the hero achieve their objective. It works.
I very much want to work with small business owners: To help them get total clarity on their offering, who their target market is and what that market’s needs are, then to package it all in a top quality website that generates enquiries.
So this section is About me.
My name is Tony Radford. I live in the small English town of Nantwich, in the county of Cheshire.
I have an Honours Degree in Business and a Masters Degree in Marketing.
I’ve worked in software and web development for over 25 years. I built a successful software company in Romania. We worked on projects for a wide range of organisations and industries and some of the best known organisations such as BT, Lexus Europe and the Church of England.
When I sold that company, I moved to Italy. I lived there for 8 happy years. Italy is really beautiful and it was a wonderful period of my life, but eventually it became time to come home England. I am happy to be here.
If you Google the phrase “The coolest Englishman on the planet,” you are likely find me, Tony Radford, ranked number one.
